Learn something new everyday...

SHIPPING MANURE

In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship. It was also before commercial fertilizer's invention, so large shipments of manure were common. It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, it not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a byproduct is methane gas.

As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles, you can see what could (and did) happen. Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM!!!

Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening. After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the term "Ship High In Transit" on them which meant for the sailors to store it high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane.

Thus evolved the term "S.H.I.T." ("Ship High In Transit) which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day.

You probably did not know the true history of this word.

Neither did I. I always thought it was a golf term.

Funny words...

I stole these words off Delaney's page...they made me laugh so hard, they make sense to me because I have done everyone of them. Thanks Delaney.

Kawashock (kah wah shahk') - n.Def: Pulling into the last remaining parking spot only to discover a motorcycle there.

Phonesia (fo nee' zhuh) - n.Def: The affliction of dialing a phone number and forgetting whom you were calling just as they answer.

Fairybump -Def: The non-existent item you just tripped over that no one else can see

Yes, it is haunted...

Pete and I got to eat at one of our favorite resturants this summer. We love to eat at Porter's Place, named after Porter Rockwell. The food is soooooo good we actually ate there twice this summer. We did talk to our waitress and asked her if it is really haunted. She said she heard it was and have had many people come by to check it out, but have never had ghost hunters come in and investigate. She said she has never seen anything paranormal but some of her co-workers have. If you are ever in Lehi, Ut check it out. It is just down the main street from the high school.

I got my hair did...

After getting my hair highlighted and cut my hairdresser decided to use the flat iron instead of just the usual blow dry. I have never used a flat iron before and I loved it. Now I have to go buy a flat iron.

I have been watching...

...too much HGTV. hahahahaha All kidding aside my family room was in desperate need of a make over. Pete left on Wednesday for the Police Olympics...he drove to Oregon with his friend, they played golf for two days in Oregon. On they went to Idaho and played golf for 3 days, they played the courses they were going to play in the Olympics. Monday through Wednesday they are playing in the Olympic tournement. So while Pete was gone I decided to redo the family room to surprise him when he gets home.

Before...I had to do some work on the walls and move everything. Wow what time does to your walls and you don't even realize it.
We moved the shelfs, books, DVD's and CD's into the living room.
It is amazing how much stuff you accumulate over the years.
I went through alot of stuff and got rid of it...I do not want to move all this when we retire.
The first coat...wow, it is brighter that what I thought.
yeah, pretty yellow
I decided to add some left over dark brown paint I had left over from Matt's room to the second gallon for the second coat. It toned it down a little and I liked it alot better. I then painted the white border burgandy red...
finished room without the flash...
with the flash. Had alot of fun...but I am tired.
I hope Pete likes it???

Thank you...

A big thank you out to Heather and James for getting us hooked on avacado mixed with pepper and lime juice...great for dipping pretzels in. Yea, we are so hooked on something so simple but so good. yummy!!! Oh and hummis too. Thanks.

My baby started college...

Matt started college on Monday...I can't believe it.
Where did all the time go?

His graduation picture.
Matt is going to Solano Community College, he is planning on getting two Associates Degrees.
One in Computer Programing and one in Web Page something.
Way to go Matt. We are so proud of you.

Bee Stings...

Matt and I were working in the yard today...he mowed the lawn and I was raking up an old pile of leaves. In that old pile of leaves there must have been an hornets nest because all of a sudden they were everywhere. I look down, one is on my leg. I let out a scream, started running and relized there was another one on my arm and they were flying everywhere around me. I thought for sure I was a dead woman, all I could think of was killer bees. I get to the porch, Matt runs over to help me and I have one in my hair back by my neck, we finally got it out. Man, I forgot how bad bee stings hurt. I had to have Matt look up on the internet what to do. I totally forgot what to do...

If anyone has any great home remedies please leave a comment and let me know so I will be better prepared next time...hopefully there won't be a next time but just in case.

Pete golfs...

THANKSGIVING POINT
Wendi and I waiting on the patio for Pete to finish golfing. Pete was golfing with my friend Linda's son Mike, who now lives in Utah but is from Napa. Anyway, they went golfing and we met Linda, (she was visiting from Napa) her son Dan and his wife and new baby for lunch and some shopping in West Jordan.

I forgot what the name of this golf course is, but it is off Geneva Road in Orem.
(Yea, Pete would be so proud of me that I forgot the name)
Driving off for a day of golf, what a life.
hitting to the 18th green
moving the flag so he can putt.

ERICKSON REUNION GOLF TOURNAMENT
Pete not only played in the golf tournement, he went on with Uncle Ron, Ray and Jerry to play another 18 holes. We were all up on the mountain camping waiting for him to come up. My cousin LeRoy had to drive up the mountian with his son to pick up a paycheck so he stopped by to let me know Pete was playing another 18 holes. It scared the crap out of me when he came looking for me. I thought something had happened to Pete. I am glad it was just that he was playing more golf, that I can handle.

SUN RIVER GOLF COURSE IN ST GEORGE
These pictures are taken from my sister Debby's vacation house in St George.
Her back yard is on the 14th hole.
Pete on the 14th putting green.
All there is between the house and the golf course is this dry wash. They say there is alot of water running through it in the winter.

Pete had a great time, he golfed almost everyday we were on vacation. What a life, that is what we are looking forward to doing when we retire...hopefully soon.

4 generations...

When Jen and Layla were here we introduced Layla to Pete's mom, great grandma Jerich.
As shown before, we took some 4 generation pictures with my dad.

I don't get it...

I find these pictures on my camera often.
Matt likes to take pictures of his feet.

Wendi got a haircut and some highlights...

Here is a picture of how long Wendi's hair was, actually it went almost to her butt.
Tristen cut about 6 to 7 inches off...
Wow, Wendi has alot of hair....
Here is a picture of after the cut...
Next day Tristen did the highlights...
Such precision work...
Waiting for the bleach to color her hair...
All done, you could at least smile Wendi.
Tristen also gave her some layers. Love it.
